Commonwealth of Kentucky Launches Computerized Criminal History System

Have a criminal record?  Watch out.  It just got easier to identify criminals in Kentucky. The Governor's Office for Technology and the Kentucky State Police have teamed up to launch a new computerized criminal history (CCH) system for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  The new system, which uses the latest technology, will make it easier to get a single, logical view of criminal history records for Kentucky's justice community.  The project is an effort of the Kentucky State Police, the Governor's Office for Technology and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a vendor for the state.

The system went live on Sunday, October 12, and signals the completion of Phase 2 of the multi-phased CCH project.  Phase 2 provides a new criminal history system with enhanced functionality and features

Benefits include:

Completion of this critical milestone sets the stage for Phase 3, FBI Interstate Identification Index (III) Participation scheduled for completion in February 2004.   The Interstate Identification Index, also known as III or "Triple I," is an "index-pointer" system to exchange criminal history records among states.

The CCH project is one of several Unified Criminal Justice Information System (UCJIS) initiatives underway in the Commonwealth.  According to Aldona Valicenti, Kentucky's Chief Information Officer, "The CCH system and its modernization are critical to the UCJIS System.  It is the focal point for providing accurate data and necessary for other public safety initiatives.  We are very pleased to have completed Phase 2."

With the implementation of the CCH system, Kentucky retains its position as a national leader in justice information sharing.
